As you step into a Junior Suite aboard Carnival Spirit, you can’t help but feel that you’re stepping into full-size luxury in a smaller package. Featuring a standard-size balcony, in a Carnival Spirit Junior Suite you'll find everything else there is to love about a suite, including VIP check-in, a walk-in closet… and even a whirlpool tub for relaxing. Carnival-logoed Beach Towels are provided in each cruise accommodation for passengers to take ashore. For all other cruise accommodations, bathrobes are provided (upon request) during the turndown service on the first evening. Bathrobes can be purchased at $49 (adult size) and $24 (children sizes /2-4 yo and 6-8 yo). If the guest has not prepaid a tip, the recommended amount per person will be transferred to the Sail & Sign account on the penultimate day of the cruise.

The main sunbathing and lounging deck is Deck 9 around the Dome, Sun and Serenity pools. Another area for lounging (on pods) is both the port and starboard sides of Deck 9. Pods can take two people, but the covering is vinyl rather than cloth, so they are not the most comfortable.

Day 6: Ketchikan

Better yet, all of these kids venues are free, with lots of non-stop programming. Otherwise, if you book a balcony cabin, expect a very similar aesthetic to what you’ll find in all the other staterooms, with lots of orange, red, creams and gold accents. The number of crew members is slightly higher than the older Fantasy-class vessels. Carnival Spirit is by no means a big ship, and that’s because it’s designed to be able to sail through the Panama Canal and deal with harsher regions, such as Greenland. The improved internet access offers increased bandwidth and speed. Carnival's complimentary children's programs cater to all ages -- from 2-year-olds to teens -- and are split into five separate age groups with different hangouts on different decks. A beauty salon offering haircuts and styling and makeup treatments is beside the spa, while the sauna and steam rooms (free) are located within the men's and women's changing rooms. The waiting room is small, and on my visit for a collagen facial (which was sublimely relaxing), all seats were occupied, mostly by men who seemed to be waiting for their partners. Carnival's family entertainment -- "Hasbro, The Game Show" (playing giant Connect 4 and Yahtzee games) and the adorable Towel Animal Theatre production for the youngest kids -- also takes place in the theatre.
The cost is AU$3.25 per washer load and AU$3.25 per dryer load. Vending machines dispense small boxes of detergent and water softener at AU$1.50 per box. There are lots of official entertainment venues across Carnival Spirit, but you don’t necessarily have to go to one of these official venues in order to have a great time. Wherever you happen to be, there’s always going to be something fun going on. Activities pop up all the time, so keep your eye out for everything from bingo games to trivia, comedy improv to dance classes, live music to poolside movies. Staterooms come standard with amenities such as flat-screen televisions, in-room safes and non-stocked mini bars.
